Flight safety report
« on: April 27, 2012, 06:21:57 pm »
Not quite sure who to send this to in the company but i have just parked up a Noble Beech up on a dusty sandy road in the outback of Australia about 180 to the north of Perth. I was happily cruising along at FL180 enjoying the monotonous scenery when i thought a set of airmanship checks were in order. On checking the oil pressure i noticed that it had decayed down to almost zero. Following my checklist i throttled back but was unable to maintain altitude so started a slow descent. Well bugger me if i didn't lose the left engine, so secured and feathered that, increased my descent to keep my speed up when the right hand noise maker went quiet and I started looking for somewhere to land. Nearest airfield was 130 NM away so i was not going to make that. I could see a nice road running along my track to my right so lined up on that and tried to get best distance but got ready for an off airport landing on the road.

This was not really the way i had planned the flight and I am now standing on the side of the road waiting for a ride. I guess i will not be logging this flight.

Might be bad enough weather to waste another 4 or 5 hours tomorrow to retry it. ( If someone can pick me up and take me back to Broom.)

I must admit the unplanned failure did make for an exciting flight in the end.

::) Relief flight and mechanic on the way to you. Maintain a radio watch. Contact with local Police has also been established to prepare for another on road landing.
By the way, the boss wants to see you on your return!!  >:(

The boss will be happy. I managed to make it all the way without crashing this time.
